Orange Isle is an islet in Xiangjiang River, Changsha City. As early as in Tang Dynasty, oranges were produced abundantly and sold to distant Jianghan areas. Juzizhou had been a famous scenic spot of Hunan Province since the ancient time. It is a place with the scenery of "snow on the river", one of the eight sceneries of ancient Xiaoxiang.

Orange Isle is a bridge where the present meets the past. It adds a profound cultural legacy to Xiaoxiang culture. Zhuzhang Ferry, a ferry for Zhu Xi and Zhang Shi coming from the south to take a boat to Yuelu Academy and Chengnan Academy for giving lectures, describes the grand situation of Hunan students coming for study eight hundred years ago; Shuilu Temple and Gongji Tower are telling the prosperity of religious culture in Yuan Dynasty; the sound of clarion for Zeng Guofan training Hunan navy force is lightly vaguely sounded in the sky above Juzizhou; Weather-beaten foreign consulate and advanced villas witnessed the history after Changsha became a commercial port; When Mao Zedong was standing at Juzizhou, he threw such a question to the vast sky—"asking the vast land, who will determine the ups and downs". He changed the process of Chinese history and showed special preference to Orange Isle.

Beach Park
In a Southeast Asian style, Beach Park is abundant with a variety of subtropical plants, such as the Canary Island date palm and the California fan palm, creating a tropical atmosphere. With an area of 50 acres, it is divided into three parts, Beach Square, Grassland Sports Square and Indoor Sports Leisure Center. The entertainment activities are diverse, including camping, beach and water sports, and star gazing using a telescope.
100-feet Fountain
When the water soars into the air from the fountain it can reach as high as 100 feet, almost the same as a 30-storey building, and is as splendid as a waterfall. Even if you are on the bank, you can feel the coolness that the mist brings. The fountain is opene on weekends and holidays.
Mao Zedong’s Statue
Mao Zedong’s Statue is based upon the image of 32-year-old Mao in 1925. Built with reinforced concrete, it has a granite surface. With a length of 91 yards (93 meters), a width of 45 yards (41 meters) and a height of 35 yards (32 meters), the statue aims to show Mao Zedong’s positive image and encourage young generations.
River Watching Pavilion
Over 110 yards (101 meters) from Mao Zedong’s Statue, the River Watching Pavilion covers an area of 315 square yards (263 square meters). The pavilion was originally the Ancient Dongting Palace. As time has passed, great changes have taken place,but you can still stand in it to watch the river flowing toward the east without a break.
Witness Tree
The Witness Tree has grown on Orange Isle for about 180 years. Because the tree witnessed the early revolutionary activities of Mao Zedong from 1913 to 1923, it is called the Witness Tree. It is recorded that Chairman Mao often sat under the tree and discussed how to save the country with his friends.
Thinking Platform
The Thinking Platform is another witness to Mao Zedong’s stories. It is right in this place that Mao Zedong, facing the roaring Xiangjiang River and thinking about the country’s fate, wrote the famous poem “Changsha Tune – Spring in a Pleasure Garden”. In honour of that moment, people built the Thinking Platform where he stood.
Orange Isle Fireworks Show
Every Saturday at around 20:30 from May to late September, and on New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year’s Eve and Chinese National Day, there is a fireworks show staged on Orange Isle, which lasts for 20 minutes.
Note: To have the best view of the fireworks, you are recommended to go to areas along the river, such as Middle Xiangjiang Road and Poet Du Fu’s Pavilion. You can take subway line 2 to Middle Xiangjiang Road Station and then walk to these places.
★ Transportation
1. Take subway line 2 to Juzizhou Station. The station is right on the island.
Note: During Fireworks Show , the subway train will not stop at this station in consideration of your safety.
2. Take Bus 123, 143, 804, 901, and 908 (West Line) to Juzizhou Bridge East Station, walk up to the bridge and then down along a footpath to the park.
Note: Buses 123 and 804 do not stop at Juzizhou Bridge East Station during the return trip.
